Workplace
Our communities and workplaces have become increasingly diverse.
Diversity encompasses many elements, among which are race and
ethnicity, gender, language, disability, sexual orientation,
age, religious affiliation, and economic means. Changing demographics,
and the desire by many individuals to be recognized in their
own terms, are factors which have contributed to the increased
attention to diversity.
Today, organizations of all kinds cannot afford to
ignore the impact of diversity. Most often these differences,
real or perceived, create 1) barriers for people within an
organization to communicate or work together effectively,
or 2) difficulties when interacting with current and potential
clients, customers or constituents.
Since the Spring of 2003, the Institute
for Cultural Partnerships has been at the forefront of workplace
diversity awareness for the Capital Region through its convening
of the Workplace
Diversity Roundtable--representing corporations, non-profits
and governmental agencies with active workplace diversity
programs.
If your organization
has a staff person tasked with workplace diversity responsibilities,
please consider joining the Roundtable. If your organization
is considering a workplace diversity initiative, please attend
a Roundtable meeting to learn more about best practices for
diversity in the Capital Region.
The Institute for
Cultural Partnerships will work with you to transform diversity-related
barriers and difficulties into opportunities! Please contact
Fredrika
McKain, ICP President/CEO to discuss your organization's
diversity opportunities.
