Region Of Diversity Conference Proceedings
from Region of Diversity: Respecting Differences and Finding
Common Ground A regional conference on diversity
was organized by the Susquehanna Conference on October 28,
1999. Held at the Harrisburg Area Community College's Wildwood
Center, the conference engaged 150 participants representing
a wide range of interests, ethnicities, and profession, who
reviewed historic and demographic changes that have impacted
the region, as well as discussed citizen roles in such sectors
as the clergy, business, education, law enforcement, youth,
community, media, and government.
The proceedings to the Region of Diversity Conference
are now available! This document includes:
- summaries of the morning presentations by experts in the
fields of human relations, hate crimes, inter-group relations,
diversity, geography, history and psychology;
- maps and charts regarding hate crimes, unity groups, population,
migration, religion, race, etc.;
- real stories of victims of hate crimes, white supremacy
defectors, and those who have acknowledged their prejudice
and are working to educate others;
- summaries of the afternoon breakout sessions;
- challenges and recommendations to the sectors represented
at the conference; and
- resources.
