The people of Puerto Rico have a form of music called plena which translates as music of the people . Plena music mirrors the combined Spanish, African and Taino heritage of Puerto Ricans. It is a traditional form of dance music with lyrics that reflect the experiences of the people. Led by Joaquin Rivera, Los Pleneros del Batey has been performing as a group since 1987. The music is percussive and exciting, featuring panderas, cuatros, congas, guitars, guiros and maracas!
