On Tour Catalogue
The Institute for Cultural Partnerships is pleased to announce
the release of On Tour, a series of recordings from some of
our state's finest ethnic and traditional performers. This
collection springs from the On Tour program, a concert series
featuring musicians who reflect the highest aesthetic quality
in their own communities.
About the Series
On Tour now offers a series of 11 recordings (5 audio CDs,
6 cassettes) featuring a total of 17 artists from throughout
the Commonwealth. The recording series includes both studio
and field recordings and has been professionally produced
for broadcast and audio quality on the radio. Each recording
includes an accompanying booklet that provides detailed background
information about the performing group and the selections
offered, as well as important cultural information to assist
in understanding and interpreting their music.
These recordings focus on Pennsylvania musicians, either
recent immigrants or descendants of immigrants, who actively
use, research, remember and adapt their traditions to fit
new performance contexts. Whether remembering and celebrating
the musical traditions of their parents or grandparents, or
performing music with traditional roots that is currently
popular in their country of origin, all of these artists are
continuing the creative process of making music, actively
selecting which traditions to use and how to use them.
All the artists in this series, whether they consider themselves
professional or amateur, are serious musicians with great
talent and a strong knowledge of their own musical culture
and background. Each recording in the series reflects the
unique musical vision and experience of the individual - a
vision rooted in tradition and shaped by personal experience.
