Staff & Teacher Training
These are the basic ICP trainings which can be modified to
fit the needs of the ICP client:
Cultural Diversity for Educators
A workshop designed to encourage teachers to integrate diversity
education into their schools and classrooms. Participants
examine their cultural identity, uncover their own biases,
and learn how to cultivate an atmosphere of inclusion and
acceptance in their schools. The workshop is also an opportunity
for educators to develop network of like-minded individuals.
This training can be provided to an entire faculty or made
available to individual educators through open enrollment
courses held every summer at CAIU. As with conflict resolution,
cultural diversity training can be adapted for aides, bus
drivers, counselors, and all other support staff.
Conflict Resolution for Educators
A training session that will improve participants ability
to resolve conflicts, demonstrate skills and techniques for
everyday problem solving, and explore ways to defuse tension.
Educators will learn to identify and apply different conflict
styles to different situations. Training sessions can also
be adapted for aides, bus drivers, counselors, and all other
support staff. This training can be provided to an entire
faculty or be made available to individual educators through
open enrollment courses held every summer at CAIU.
Improving Classroom Culture: Culture Diversity, Conflict
and Sexual Harassment in K-12 Classrooms
An intensive multi-day course (15 hours) during which educators
learn how cultural diversity, conflict resolution and sexual harassment
awareness contribute to safer schools and successful learning
outcomes. This is also an opportunity for educators from different
schools and communities to share experiences and exchange teaching
techniques with one another. If taken through the CAIU, participants
receive one graduate credit upon completion of course.
Multi-cultural Materials
This workshop offers lesson plans that incorporate all subjects
and encourage students to learn about their culture and heritage.
Teachers will learn 1) innovative ways to teach students to
appreciate others, 2) strategies to encourage collecting of
oral histories and documentating folklife in the community,
and 3) useful tips to identify and invite traditional artists
into the classroom to work directly with students. The workshop
fee includes lesson plans, teachers guides and recordings
representing different ethnic musical traditions.
