Sarla
"In the first quarter of my life... I was confident of myself, so was my family. I had earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s in History. I wanted to teach as a professor in a college, but my heartfelt desire was suppressed because, in my family, girls were not allowed to work. So I married and was possessed as a noun and ceased to exist as a verb." "Even though I end up being a housewife, not fulfilling my own dream, I found my true self. I would not have found my authentic self if I had stayed in India after my marriage. To me, my self-dignity and integrity had always been very important, more than love. I could survive 29 years on this foreign land because of my inner strength and faith in myself." |
