"I arrived...I never forget…New York was my port of entrance.  It was around six in the morning when we were just arriving.  It was so exciting to see the Statue of Liberty.  The sun was coming up, shining all over.  And I saw the Statue of Liberty and I knew that I was in the United States.  It was with all my ambitions, but most of my ambitions was to study, to learn English.  I liked English a lot, I didn’t know why…"

Belgica was born in Ecuador in the mid 1950s.  She immigrated to the United States in 1979 after working as an elementary school teacher in Ecuador for two years.  She is currently completing her Masters in Education.  She is married and has two children.
